Addis Ababa Network of PLHIV Associations/ANOPA+/

Background

By the year 2009, Addis Ababa city administration alone accommodates 190,485 adult PLHIV,112,932 positive pregnant women,903 annual HIV positive born child ,22,214 annual new infection,5,948 AIDS death cases and 83,633 AIDS orphans. Addis Ababa city’s adult prevalence rate is 8.5,while the national is 2.2./single point estimate/.This implies, still the city has an immense contribution to the national prevalence rate and to the transmission. IT is in evitable; these factors enhance the degree of complexity of the social and economic crises and/or poverty.
One of the largest and long lasting social problems in Ethiopia is HIV/AIDS. Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, with deep rooted socioeconomic problems entertains the lion’s share of health, social and economic constraints highly aggravating the severing poverty level.
In combating HIV/AISs and its impact, Addis Ababa network of PLHIV associations/ANOPA+/ is anticipating a flexible

To scale up the involvement of community at large and PLWHA association in activates for the prevention, control to contribute to the regional HIV/AIDS efforts and its socio- economic impacts.
